My
path follows where color leads.
I
went to the New York Studio School of Painting and Sculpture
in the 1970’s and ran a decorative painting business in
the 80’s and 90’s.
Then
I took a jewelry metal smithing class, and when I saw the color
of the copper after it was touched by fire, my interest in jewelry
making began. I have since discovered the world of beads, and
have added them to my vocabulary of expression. The beading
materials I use range from semi-precious stones (cut in new
and unusual ways), to bone, wood, vintage glass, African trade
beads and even paper. I see my pieces as sculptural. I try to
meld the different properties of the materials and consider
composition, balance, texture, and even some whimsy when I am
working.
I
have been selling my work for a number of years now, and color
is still showing me where to find the joy.
